iPads & apps for toddlers
Some children start using and playing apps earlier compared to others, because of that need, iPad apps have a variety of choices your toddlers can select from. The educational benefit of iPad apps is that they can grow with the kids.  Try to read books from iPad with your kids today and two years later, they will be the ones reading for you.

Do you have older children? You can check out the following favorite iPad apps of preschool children.

1.  Monkey Pre-schooler Lunchbox

They are very cool.  A happy, playful monkey will cheer you up while you’re counting fruit, match cards, and put together the puzzles. You will have a reward—stickers and a happily dancing monkey, definitely.  This iPad app is very addictive.  Some screens may need the assistance of a mom or a dad to help their toddler.

2. DR. Seuss’s ABC

Toddlers may begin early to learn the ABC alphabet.  It is not easy to choose which books of DR. Seuss to purchase first, so you can begin it easy with the iPad apps.  Next, you can add probably “The Cat in the Hat.” It’s all fun clicking an object on the screen then the word appears on it.  Joined by a narrator, you will be told what it is.  This app is great for a toddler’s early reading experience.

3. Fish School HD

This latest educational iPad app is a disguising fun technique of a fish tank.  It’s brought to you by the developer Duck Duck Moose.  You can see how colourful fish will turn into numbers, letters, and shapes.  The monitor for play time is the recess of the child during his learning time.  It starts with the screen singing the alphabet while fish arrange themselves to form the alphabet letters.

4. Letters A to Z

This is a quiet and simple sequence of alphabet letters.  Suitable for toddlers as well as for parents who are pissed off with loud and violent games.  With the first glance, it seems you are to catch the letter on cards so you need to touch the images and the letters. You will hear audios reading the letters for you while the images have a little animation. This iPad app is recommended for children who are new to iPad and not yet hooked to technology.

5. Clickysticky

This app is a sticker book to your iPad along with the 4 assorted scenes to select from. This allows your kids to have creative imaginations, adventures to outer space, deep under the sea, and play with helicopters and jets.  One of the most-liked features of this is the fact that the noisy objects come from the elephant’s trumpet to silly aliens. Whhee!!!

6. Trucks: Storyboy’s iPad app edition

This app is very attractive. You may want to keep it on your list since it’s not fast to look for apps with great masculinity in them—even if little girls love trucks also.  The app does show you an image of a truck and tell its name.  The price is reasonable and you can add it to your apps collections.  It won’t make you feel bad to delete it when your toddlers have outgrown it.

iPads and apps have the ability to make applications ideal tools for learning. Well-designed educational apps can always combine videos, texts, audios to generate something great regardless of the age of the children.

For Kids: How to Have Power Over Scary Movies

    Posted in Labels: , , , ,

How to have power over scary movies?
Our neighbors do not monitor what their children watch on TV.  Our 6-year-old son was playing at their house one time when they watched a monster movie.  He came home crying, and ever since he’s been scared about monsters in his room at bedtime.  He recently found out that the same movie is going to be shown every week for the next month, and he wants to see it again.   It frightened him so much the first time, and I think that would be a mistake.   Why would he even want to put himself through those fears again?

When children repeatedly view something that is scary, they make themselves less sensitive to it.  Your son probably wants to conquer his fear of this movie monster.  Some children recreate scary movies by talking out the frightening episodes over and over again.  This verbal repetition helps them feel in control of their fears.

It isn’t advisable to expose children to movies that will scare them.  They’ll have enough fears to conquer during childhood.  However, your child has already watched the movie, so it is already in his mind.  Because he wants to see it again, arrange to watch it with him.  During intermission or after the movie, talk about ways you might have saved yourselves from the monster.  Children enjoy imagining themselves slaying the feared monster and safely escaping.

Some children insist on checking their rooms for lurking monster before they feel safe enough to get into bed.  If your son requests this kind of search, help him and reassure him that he is safe.  He might want to ring a loud bell in his room to chase away potential monsters.  This represents another way to take charge of the environment.

No matter how absurd your son’s fears might seem to you, refrain from ridicule or laughing.  He needs to express his fears in order to control them.  If he feels ashamed of his fears, he might keep them secret.  Consequently, the fears could become more intense.  Help him discuss with you his fears and figure out ways to help him cope with what he’s afraid of.

Technology: Helping Video Game Addicts Overcome Their Addiction

    Posted in Labels: , , ,

    Video game addicts.
While your children may not seem to be one of the video game addicts, majority of psychologists state that there are some family concerns on the overpowering obsessions children experience when playing video games.

If your children show proofs as video game addicts, try to follow the suggested corrective measures below.  See how their behavior changes.  If improvement doesn’t happen, then it’s time to confront your children about the issue.  Try outside help by consulting with their teachers, peers, or neighbors.

Here are some of the symptoms of the video game addicts.  Specialists recommend the need of parents’ interventions on the following warning signs:

Video game addicts show difficulties in academic subjects:

    1.   Minimized attention span.
    2.   Listening skills become poor.
    3.   Grades continue to decline.
    4.   Unable to concentrate on doing tasks.
    5.   Can’t complete assignments or projects.
    6.   Can’t think logically.
    7.   Can’t follow instructions.
    8.   Troubles in understanding information.

Video game addicts show difficulties in the physical aspect:

    1.   Eyes get dry and strained.
    2.   Headaches.
    3.   Dryness of the skin face.
    4.   Feeling nervous.
    5.   Difficulty in sleeping.
    6.   Walking while sleeping, nightmares.

    3.  Often feeling frustrated.
    4.  Manipulate others (complaining, throwing tantrums).
    5.  Withdrawing self from others.
    6.  Can’t socialize well.
    7.  Always rushing when eating, bathing, or working.
    8.  No time to participate on activities formerly enjoyed.

What should parents do to help video game addicts conquer their addiction?

    1.   Recognize that all video games are nothing but just “games.” They’re not  very important and they can go away even without any giving extreme effects to children.

    2.   Put limitations on the time for kids to play on videos. One to two hours are good enough to satisfy one’s craving for games.

    3.   Keep children busy to do other important things like reading, cleaning, joining sports, doing other hobbies and a whole lot more.

    4.  Suggest to kids to have connections with their other friends. Video game addicts normally use the player in isolation. Help kids bring back life with peers. Hanging out with real people brings back the real world for them.

Video game addicts are they who have serious problems on playing video games.  The answer is very simple that requires little power compared to completely breaking dependency on certain drugs. Aside from video games, there are more exciting and deeper games to play on instead—the real life games.  So encourage children to start joining and playing the real games now!

Tips When Kids Want Electronic Gadgets

    Posted in Labels: , , ,

It’s never ending; kids always want to get electronic gadgets. They want you to buy them video games and the latest gadget player. They want to get involved in the community of on-line gaming with fees to pay every month.  Your kids wish to buy a mobile phone with the newest features. They want to use a computer, tablet, or laptop.  The list of electronic gadgets your kids want to buy just keeps on coming.  How would parents cope up with the advanced technology? How to distinguish which electronic gadgets can help or not?

    Tips for Parents

    1.   Accept the reality that with today’s fresher generation, children will always want electronic gadgets to make things different in their lives. Lots of parents believe that mobile phones are a “WANT,” while most teens resist and assert that mobile phones are a necessity.  Be consciously aware about these pressures. Parents should work harmoniously with their children rather than against them.  Remember, there has never been any greater technological selection of electronic gadgets than today.

    2.   Make balanced technological wishes of family members.  Do you have sufficient cash to buy a computer for everybody to have access on it?  If this is so, make an effective schedule time to use the computer for all family members to benefit.  If purchasing a computer is not affordable better search for shops where to rent computers at low cost.

    3.   Make an encouragement to members of the family to communicate with relatives and extended family using electronic gadgets.  Mobile phones, email, or texting can make the communication easier.  But there's a caution when using these electronic gadgets: kids should not use them to strangers.

    4.   Be truthful and realistic.  Although kids want electronic gadgets, buy only what is affordable and what can your child contribute.  It’s a lesson to learn for kids to save money in order to buy something they need.

    5.   The number of hours in front of a TV or computer should be limited.  What do experts recommend and vouch for? No more than 2 hours every day for kids to watch the television, play video games, use the computer, or listen to MP3s.

Parents with Children from birth to 5 years old

    1.   Although kids want electronic gadgets, they should not have technological access to certain gadgets until they are 2 or 3 years of age.  As much as possible, always keep gadgets or technology outside their reach.  Still the most important thing to do is playing around.

    2.   Lots of parents present the television to young kids to avoid tantrums especially during rush hours. If this is so, then pick only what is appropriate, helpful and educational.  Choose child-friendly TV shows. Keep a monitoring routine and limit the number of hours as much as possible to two hours only.

    3.   Almost all pre-schoolers would ask for hand-held electronic video games. Understand that games virtually require reading skills for children that pre-schoolers don’t yet develop.  However, if you wish to buy video games for them, get one with early childhood (EC) rate.

    4.   It is a must that parents of today’s generation should join their children’s use of electronic gadgets and technology.  Join them while watching TV, be their companion when playing video games.  Because kids always want electronic gadgets, introduce ones that are only constructive to their learning.

Technology will always be an inescapable part of kids’ lives—kids who want electronic gadgets. While children love to get and own gadgets for themselves, it is still up to the parents whether or not to buy video games, cell phones, computer or any electronic gadgets for their kids' best interest.

5 Tips to Consider when Using iPad with Young Children

    Posted in Labels: , , , ,

The passing away of Steve Jobs has left the world of technology a great legacy—using iPad with young children.  He had lots of gadgets, like the iPad, that have become useful tools for teaching kids. Unfortunately, professionals and parents alike don’t know how to maximize the benefits of technology.  They don’t focus on the techniques the way an iPad can be helpful in relating with young children.

Here are the 6 tips to get the most from iPad technological experience:

    1.   What are your plans?  Understand why you’re using iPad with young children versus the use of traditional books, building with blocks, drawing or coloring on papers. Is your plan of using iPad to extend activities they already know, or is it for playing and entertainment?  Make sure you know why you plan to hand over an iPad to your young children.

    2.   Who are the participants?  Who will use the iPad? Is it for one child or probably a group of young children at the same time?  Consider their age brackets.  What are their degree of development and attention span? Are there unsuitable apps that may affect their development level?  If there are, hide those apps and keep them inaccessible.

    3.   What are the limitations?  How long should it take when using iPad with young children?  Is there a required number of hours? Are there settings?  Consider what is recommended to children when using of technology: No more than one to two hours daily.  Limitations also involve viewing of TV and DVD’s.

    4.   How to position when using the iPad?  Will you be sitting next to your child, or behind him, or in front so you see each other face to face?  Is it proper to hold iPad up near children’s face or it's better to put it on their lap?  Do you want to take control of its use while young children are working on the iPad? Or would you let the children explore it by themselves?  Make a little study which iPad positioning gives the best outcome.

    5.   What are the validity of proofs?  To date, there is no recent research-based proof on the real advantageous effects when using iPad with young children, regardless of their age.  It is still best to use iPad with caution and employ good judgment instead of presuming that this educational tool is beneficial.  On the contrary, there’s no doubt children are now using and benefiting from the many iPad apps.  The new technology will always be useful for young children.

In conclusion, it is generally significant for parents to take their “plan” considerably before entrusting and using iPad with young children.  They should know the iPad’s role in giving education and interactive opportunities for the family and children—far greater than just being entertained.

Technology -- 10 Ways to Protect Your Family’s Privacy on Social Networking Websites

    Posted in Labels: , , ,

Over the last couple of years, social networking websites like Twitter, Facebook, Digg and others have been extremely emerging in popularity.  Most people are enjoying logging on to these sites, but are the users disclosing more than what is necessary?  Are social networking websites safe for your private information?  Does technology give risks to parents, children and family?

    Social Networking Defined

Social networking is the 21st century’s trend in communication.  Primarily, social networking is enjoyable to use. It helps people to get in touch with each other via sharing images and videos, chatting with friends and loved ones, and sharing personal information.  All of these are done on-line. Social networking websites perform as on-line community for internet users.  Account owners share common interest once they start socializing on-line.  It involves having access on other members’ profiles and personal information, probably to even personally call them.

    Dangers of Social Networking Websites

Inside the home each member of the family, especially children, can become the predator’s targets. Many strangers and stalkers abuse the use of these sites.  Smart predators can save information about different users.  These are the information always uploaded and input by users making them globally available.  They are subject to theft and can be shared and sold by strangers to other people.

    Safety Guidelines for Family Members

    1.   Do only what’s comfortable for you.  Feel good and happy with what you’re doing on social networking websites.  Your peers and other people should not force you in any way to do what they do on-line.  If they put their contact numbers, this does not mean you have to put yours as well.

    2.   Think many times before deciding to publish your identifying information.  Some of which may include your complete name, contact numbers, address, or card numbers.  If you wish to upload upload images of your school, home or office, make sure they are needed in your profile.

    3.   Choose a user name not related to your private information.  “Peternewjersey” or “georgemarch27” would be very risky choices in social networking websites.

    4.   Create another email account, one which does not reveal your real name.  Use this in signing up and receiving email messages.  Anytime you decide to stop your connection, it is easy for you to stop using that email account.  You can create your account with Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo Mail.  There are, however, other existing providers you can choose from.

    5.   Always use passwords that are strong. It is highly recommended to use combinations of numbers and letters.

    6.   Always log off each time you leave social networking websites.  Your profile should be kept closed all the time.  Only trusted friends should be allowed to get access to your profile.

    7.   Everything that goes on-line will stay on-line.   Avoid unnecessary chatting or publishing images and video clips that are embarrassing.  Keep in mind that once information is published, you can’t hold it back anymore.  You may have deleted it, but older versions still exist on other computers.  In general, any words you don’t want to speak against anyone, never say them on-line.

    8.  Don't ignore privacy settings. Learn more to master social networking websites. These are options to restrict unfamiliar persons whose purpose is to access your profile.  Always scrutinize the people you would accept as friends before joining them to your network community.

    9.   Be very cautious about phishing (identity theft) scams where strangers lead users to  imitate websites in order to divulge private information like passwords and usernames.

    10.  Trust your own judgement. If you think you or your children are being endangered by other online users, report the incident to a police including the social networking websites.  You or your family members could be spared from the hands of people seeking only for prey.

    Conclusion

Social networking websites have the “friends of friends” feature.  After sharing your peculiar information, you can regularly communicate within a community or across the world.  While your circle of friends becomes larger, family members will also increase publicity to strangers.  These are people who have other intentions.

There are always stalkers around the web who steal information and identity.  Children, parents and everyone are vulnerable to this condition.  For wise advice, take into consideration the above guidelines.  They will help you enjoy activities on social networking websites, and avoid some of the risks of technology.

The claims of neuroscientist Susan Greenfield will make alarming reading for the million users.  This is true for children whose social lives rely on logging on every day to their favorite social networking websites.
The alarm is that this present technology is having brain impacts to parents’ children who are attracted by the bright lights and buzzing noises. They believe that repeated exposures to social networking websites could effectively re-wire the brains of users particularly to young children.  Experts are concerned that kids using on-line communications will affect their minds.
Technology and internet computer games and fast-paced TV shows were also additional factors.  They know how newborn infants need continuous re-assurance that they alsoexist like adult parents.
Computer game exposures, chat rooms, instant messaging, and social networking websites could leave this generation (onwards) with small attention spans.

Concerns on Social Networking and Technology
    1.   Parents wonder whether genuine conversations can give way to easy screen dialogues found in social networking websites.  This could be same way where butchering and skinning animals to eat is switched to convenient meat packages in supermarkets.
    2.   There is a sharp decline in children’s ability to understand each other.  It is hard to see how this way of living has hindered brains from fully developing. Parents see teenagers spending more than eight hours a day visiting social networking websites.
    3.   Psychologists have also argued that digital technology is changing the way we are thinking now. Children do not anymore need to plan essays before writing.  How grateful we are to word processors, they do editing as they go along.  Systems of satellite navigation have invalidated the value of reading maps.
    4.   Educational psychologists believe thatparents should not allow children to use computer games until they reach seven.  Often, on-line games and social networking websites will only trigger the fight or flight portion of the brain, instead of areas responsible for reasoning.
    5.   Children's low brain development happens because kids don't engage in activities they are supposed to be do—like the traditional mind and physical activities.
While parents and children find great benefits in technology and social networking,  it doesn’t say that these are all good enough for children.  Before kids start should doing it, they need to learn to make real interactions and develop relationships with real humans—away from machines.  What do you think parents?
