Technology and Internet Games: The Dark Side of Electronic Games to Children

Posted in Labels: , , , ,

Electronic games are very thrilling and exciting.  As you probably know, technology and internet games are more than just high-tech leisure for children.  Today, there are more new options for games that both parents and kids can enjoy playing.  They are very pleasurable and can make your time for recreation more beneficial.

Parents are the ones to decide whether children are allowed to play electronic games or not.  If they permit, kids should be allowed to look for games that are both morally acceptable and exciting.

Good Benefits of Electronic Games

1.   Electronic games hone and sharpen children’s impulses.

2.   Electronic games dare their skills and help overcome boredom.

3.   Technology and internet games develop visual and mental concentration.

4.   They are helpful in improving children’s reading and math skills.

5.   Electronic games are expected to be the subject of school environment discussion.  Children have something to share and talk about with peers.

Technology and internet games are not all harmless.   It is alarming that kids can start doing things on games that parents would never have imagined doing in real life—not without getting into deep problems.

Why parents need to be particularly watchful?  As young children they are prone to be attracted and become addicted to the negative elements of electronic games.  Most of which do encourage different types of unwholesome behaviors.

What do Electronic Games Promote

1.  Role-playing games that have become extremely accepted and popular.  Using technology and internet services, children and also parents can make on-line characters—whether animals, humans, or a combination of both—that live in a computer-generated world.  Many on-line games feature cars, shops, homes, and clubs.  In essence, they are replicas of the real world.  Children players can give instant messages as their computer-generated characters, known as avatars, also react with them.

2.   Activities that have never been done in real life by children and parents.  Technology and internet games continue in virtual worlds.  Just by pressing certain buttons, on-line players can command avatars to take on unacceptable acts while participants of the natural world talk about dirty words through instant messaging.  Furthermore, those worlds are loaded with virtual counterfeits.  Critics have thrown issues about unlawful activities in the natural world by using avatars that resemble children.

3.   Unacceptable practices that many games deliberately support.  Parents should monitor their kids because some electronic games may exalt different wicked practices.  One famous game may feature activities not suitable for children.  The most popular of these technology and internet games can be accessed and played in the internet—live.  This will take children to play for whole new level.  From the comfort of your home, kids are able to challenge people who are playing the same on the other side of the globe.

For the parents, remember that on-line games are not all dreadfully bad for kids.  However, they are time-consuming and addictive.  So spend moments to scrutinize the quantity of time your children spend while using technology and internet games.  Classify the dangers they may get into to help them avoid being in the dark side of electronic games!

Computer Games: Good or Bad for Kids

Posted in Labels: , ,

During the last ten months, both my two boys have been obsessed with computer games.  They have spent all the time playing their own computers.  Our sons never used to be outgoing and sociable before.  Now, they are engrossed in computers that they rarely talk about anything else.  The phone rings constantly with calls from the new friends who share their interests.  Now we long for the good old days, and we’re anxious about this situation.

A healthy variety is a plus in anyone’s daily schedule.  Some activities, including those your boys have selected, tend to consume all of the participants’ free time, at least in the early stages when there is much to learn and new challenges to cope with.  If you approve of the new friends they are having, then be glad that a whole new world has opened up to them.

There are many good things in your two sons’ current pursuits of games and computer. The activity has unique vocabulary and skills.  Games require logical thinking and concentration, and they seem to sustain interest over long periods.  Your children will feel a strong sense of accomplishment as they master these activities.

It is important for each of your boys to share interests with peers.  Their leisure-time pursuits have led to both new friendships and new skills.  The benefits seem well worth the changes your family is facing. They need many opportunities to explore their interests.  During the exploratory phase, some will discover special talents.  Young people who achieve success often will create in themselves expectations and desires to reach greater heights.  Self-motivation is the key to developing talents or interest, be it in computer or not.

Some kids participate in an activity for the wrong reasons: they fear parental disapproval if they stop, or they continue only to receive approval.  It is preferable for a child to participate because the activity itself is satisfying.  They should not continue with activities for long periods of time just to measure up to their parent’s expectations.  Some exceptionally talented youngsters lose interest after being pushed too hard, too fast, and for too long.

Talent needs to be fostered, not forced.  Children generally take on any new challenge with enthusiasm.  When this enthusiasm is not matched by a sense of accomplishment and competence, the interest will wane.  Losing interest in this way is quite different from giving up at the beginning because it takes work to derive any satisfaction.

It is important for parents to show that they value the child’s efforts, regardless of the outcome.  All young kids deserve the opportunity to explore some activities free of report cards and adult pressures.  Regardless of talent levels, all children can be helped to develop their creativity and have fun with leisure-time activities.

However, make certain limitations so that your sons won’t be obsessed with computer games.  Set specific number of hours and time periodically.
